Ahead of the Surface Dup launching and the first reviews, the video gives us the best look of the smartphone in action. Usually Microsoft’s press event would have been held in a public setting. Unfortunately, the company has been forced to send all conferences and press reveals into the virtual space amid the COVID-19 crisis. For the time being, this will continue into 2021 at the earliest. In the Surface Duo video, Microsoft’s Windows and Devices chief Panos Panay talks about the handset, the underpinning tech, and how it works with Android. This last detail is perhaps the most interesting considering the Duo is the first time Microsoft has worked with Google’s platform for a device.

Yesterday, Microsoft revealed its new Surface Duo Android smartphone will start shipping next month. Pre-orders for the Surface Duo are already open ahead of a Sept. 10 shipping date. Microsoft has slapped a $1,400 price tag on its new smartphone. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 CPU paired with 6GB of RAM. Elsewhere, the Duo gets a pair of 1800 x 1350 AMOLED displays, with 100% SRGB and DCI-PR color accuracy. We now know the device ships with just the one 11MP lens that will offer 4K video recording. Also this week, Microsoft confirmed it will provide Android and security updates to the Surface Duo for three years.
